  3. How-To Guide: Generating Consistent Illustration Sets with Midjourney
1
of 5— Establish your style foundation

What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll be able to generate a set of 5–10 illustrations in a consistent visual style for a single client — for website sections, social series, or a brand illustration system. What used to require hiring the same illustrator for every piece can now be handled in an afternoon.

What you'll need

  • Midjourney Standard or Pro account ($30/mo or $60/mo — both include Style Reference feature)
  • Discord account
  • Time needed: 45 minutes setup; 2–3 hours for a full illustration set
  • Cost: $30/mo Standard (required for Style Reference/--sref feature)

The key to consistent illustration sets in Midjourney is the --sref (Style Reference) parameter, which locks the visual style of a first generation and applies it to all subsequent ones.

  • Option A: Generate a reference illustration from scratch
  • Option B: Use an existing illustration (from the client's brand, from a style you've agreed on, or from a reference you own)

For Option A, generate your first "master" illustration:
