Using Midjourney for Logo Concept Exploration

Before generating anything, identify 3–4 distinct conceptual directions from the brief. For each direction, decide:

• What visual metaphor or icon approach? (abstract mark, letter mark, pictorial, wordmark)
• What style? (geometric, organic, illustrative, minimal, ornate)
• What mood? (professional, playful, premium, approachable)

Write these out before opening Midjourney. The clearer your direction thinking, the better your prompts.

1. Open Midjourney (discord or midjourney.com/imagine).
2. For logo concept exploration, use these key terms in your prompts:

   • logo concept, brand mark, icon design, vector style, flat design
   • Add --no text or --no typography to avoid generating text (Midjourney handles text poorly)
   • Add --ar 1:1 for square format (most logos work in square)
   • Add white background to get clean presentation

For a hypothetical financial advisory firm called "Meridian":

Direction 1: Abstract geometric mark:

Direction 2: Compass/navigation concept:

Direction 3: Letter M mark:

Generate each. You'll get 4 images per prompt = 12 concepts from 3 prompts in 3 minutes.

What you should see: Sets of visual directions that communicate the right brand feeling — use these as stylistic reference, not templates to trace.

1. Review all generated images. Note which 2–3 have the right:

   • Visual metaphor (does the icon concept match the brand's meaning?)
   • Weight/balance (does it look right as a small mark?)
   • Style (geometric vs. organic, bold vs. delicate)
2. For your strongest direction, generate variations:

   • Click V1–V4 next to the image grid to create variations of your chosen image
   • Or refine your prompt: add more specificity about what was working
3. Generate 3–5 more rounds on your strongest direction.

1. Critical: Use Midjourney outputs as visual direction anchors only — not as logos to submit to clients.
2. Save 3–5 of the most inspirational generated images.
3. Open your vector software (Illustrator or Figma) and draw your own version inspired by the direction — not traced or reproduced from the AI output.
4. This gives you: the speed of AI exploration + the quality and originality of hand-crafted vector work.
